Our evening services use a variety of different styles of service – something for everyone! You’ll need to check the calendar, but the general pattern is:
First Sunday evening of the month – Evening Worship
This quiet, reflective service lasts about half an hour and includes a couple of Bible readings, some prayers, some quiet time, and a short address.
Second Sunday evening of the Month – Choral Evensong
Evensong uses the traditional language of the Church of England’s Book of Common Prayer. The choir leads much of this traditional worship, creating a beautiful, reflective atmosphere for our own thoughts and prayers. There are two bible readings, a short address, and some congregational hymns.
Third Sunday evening of the Month – Reflective Communion
Holy Communion is shared in a reflective, informal atmosphere. We leave space for our own thoughts, and we use meditative words from the Iona Community as well as the Church of England’s modern Common Worship service. There’s a bible reading and a short address.
Fourth Sunday evening of the Month – Evensong
Evensong uses the traditional language of the Church of England’s Book of Common Prayer. Some parts are sung. There are two bible readings, a short address, and some hymns.
Fifth Sunday evening of the Month – Compline
This comes from an ancient service said by monks to end the day. There’s plenty of time to be still, a short bible reading, and time to pray quietly in our own hearts. It lasts about fifteen to twenty minutes – a perfect, peaceful way to end the day.
