HALL CARETAKER
Earley St Peters Church Hall is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic individual as a part-time Caretaker for Earley St Peter’s Church Hall. This role would suit someone who is local to the church hall as it will require the post-holder being physically present to lock and alarm the hall every weekday evening between 22h30 and 23h00. From time-to-time the person will be expected to inspect and lock up the hall during weekends. This person will also be the emergency contact in the event of the fire or security alarm is activated outside of normal office hours.
Duties will include, but are not limited to:
- Daily coning off the parking lot for exclusive use by Hall and church users
- Coning off the parking lot for exclusive use by certain groups for practical training on training days
- Daily walk through to check all windows and doors are closed before activating the alarm and locking the hall (22h30 – 23h00, depending on bookings)
- Monthly cleaning of upstairs kitchen facilities, including the fridge
- Allocate dedicated parking spaces for certain users as and when requested
- Setting up of tables and chairs for certain regular groups
- Checking that the hall is left in good order/condition by evening users, including after pre-booked weekend events/private functions
- Reporting any damage caused by users or litter left behind in the hall and parking lot after evening and weekend bookings to the Hall Manager
- Weekly setting up of heating thermostat per room, depending on bookings in each room
- Ensuring that the main hall floor is clear of scuff marks, once a week
- Perform minor maintenance tasks, such as tightening of screws, replacement of light bulbs, oiling of door hinges etc.
- Assist the Hall Manager from time to time to clean out storage cupboards and moving items between rooms
- Assist the Hall Manager to ensure that the Hall Grounds are maintained, litter free and weed free
- Putting out recycling bags bi-weekly
To carry out the role effectively, the Caretaker will receive an itinerary from the Hall Manager, containing the required daily tasks, two weeks in advance. There are also several dates each year, usually 5-6 occasions totalling 10-12 hours, when the Caretaker would be required to act as carpark attendant, and these dates will usually be given at least 6 months in advance. Weekend duties will be communicated to the Caretaker by the Hall Manager with a two-week notice period.
This is a part-time position amounting to 5 hours per week, 1 hour per day, Monday-Friday, split between a morning and an evening visit to the hall, or alternatively, evenings only.
There are also guaranteed additional hours for carparking attendant duties, weekend inspections and lock-up and general hall maintenance as detailed above. In the event of weekend duties, falling outside of the 5 hours per week, the Caretaker will be paid for those duties on an hourly basis.
The Caretaker will report to the Hall Manager.
